Hello, Grade 1 Families,
Thank you to all of the volunteers who joined us at Fish Creek Park on Friday! We appreciate you!
Learning Intention: I can represent quantities using words, numerals, objects, or pictures. I can count forward and backward between 0 and 20 by 1s.
We have been focusing on our number sense with numbers from 0-20 in math. Students have been completing a "Number of the Day" task each morning where students are learning to write the word (correct spelling found on our number word wall), the numeral, use tally marks and ten frames and identify 1 more, 2 more, 1 less or 2 less than that number. Ask your child which is the easiest part for them and which is the most challenging part of this task. Students have been able to focus on counting forwards and backwards using manipulatives, songs, people and objects in our classroom. Try this with your child at home. See which direction is easier for them. Try starting at different numbers such as counting backwards from 9 to 3. Our goal is for students to be fluent with their numbers from 0 - 20 as we move on to larger numbers. One game we played was a Leap Frog Gizmo. Here is the link to try it at home.
Happy Thanksgiving!
