Hello, Grade 1 Families,
Happy New Year!
Learning Intention: I can follow directions and relate them to outcomes.
In our new science curriculum, we have an outcome based on computer science and coding. It begins with basic instructions to see what would happen if we did the steps out of order. Students have begun coding using a program called code.org. We use our ipads to complete this learning. Each student has their own account and their progress is saved each time. During this learning, students are learning about digital citizenship (how to be safe while using the internet), sequencing, writing precise instructions, and creating loops. Ask your child how they complete this learning. While assessing coding, I am looking for students who persevere and continue to try when they get stuck or their program does not work. I am also looking for students to become leaders and help each other learn. Students are also assessed to see if they can follow the instructions given to them in the program and can complete the task.
Reminders:
- We have Alien Inline Skating next week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). If your child has their own equipment, please ensure it is labelled with their name. Our sessions begin each morning at 8:00 am. Please have your child at school a few minutes early so we can begin right at 8:00 am.
- Due to Alien Inline, we will have library book change on Tuesday morning instead. Please help your child bring their books back for Tuesday.
