Hello, Grade 1 Families,
Learning Intention: I can value the groups and communities that I belong to. We discussed the jobs and careers people have and how we have people in our community who help make our lives easier, healthier and safer. After a discussion about community helpers, students got into groups and used our new Loose Parts Lab to create their community helper. Loose Parts are a wonderful way to incorporate creativity and imagination into their learning. We use non-permanent parts that do not have a specific purpose and create what students can imagine. Ask your child why they chose that specific community helper. Ask them to explain why they chose those specific loose parts to create their community helper. Once we had completed our community helpers, we shared them as a group and talked about what was the best part of these creations (working with friends, loose parts, being able to make their own choices) and what challenges they faced in this task (working together to create one vision and creating it). Although this was a social studies learning task, teamwork and building healthy relationships come with it and this is part of our Wellness goals.
